Conquering melanoma and skin cancer
“The best feature about the App is that it is accessible to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re working in a busy public hospital, private practice or out in the community, you can get really good information about up to date clinical trials when you need it” - A/Prof Victoria Mar (MASC Trials Board member and Study Chair, and Director, Victorian Melanoma Service, Alfred Health)
Melanoma and Skin Cancer Trials (MASC Trials) has partnered with ClinTrial Refer (CTR) to make it easier for clinicians, patients and their families to find out about the melanoma and skin cancer trials coordinated by MASC Trials that are available in all capital cities and many regional towns.
The MASC Trials App includes trials that are focussed on early detection through to treating advanced disease. A/Prof Victoria Mar (MASC Trials Board member and Study Chair, and Director, Victorian Melanoma Service, Alfred Health) explains, “One example of this is the IMAGE trial which will help provide information to the Australian Government to decide if Melanoma Surveillance Photography should be covered by Medicare”.
Clinical trials are important to the continued advancement of healthcare and as Jessica Stafford-Ewing (Melanoma Patient) notes, “..simple medicines like paracetamol for pain or antibiotics for infections, those options wouldn’t be here if we didn’t have clinical trials. We take that for granted”.
The ClinTrial Refer App is free to download and trials can also be accessed and searched via the CTR website. A/Prof Victoria Mar states, “The best feature about the App is that it is accessible to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re working in a busy public hospital, private practice or out in the community, you can get really good information about up to date clinical trials when you need it”.
