Thank-you to Pandora Paterson (General Manager of Research Policy and Patient Programs, Canteen Australia) and Lyndal Moore (Clinical Nurse Consultant, Hunter & Northern NSW, Youth Cancer Service) for talking with us about the challenges Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA’s) face in accessing current clinical trials and how ClinTrial Refer is helping facilitate access to options for patients in these circumstances.
Pandora highlights a unique challenge for AYA’s who are often too young to access adult trials and too old for paediatric trials.
Lyndal notes that there are many examples of where patients with advanced disease have accessed the ClinTrial Refer App to source open clinical trials relevant to their disease, age and location. She states, “The App is really helpful at the point of referral of a new patient. We use it in MDT meetings and it’s used regardless of where a patient lives. It helps empower the patient and AYA’s feel that we are advocating for them”.
